Fire Safety in Pembury Circus

Building Dangerous – Waking Watch Started

Cladding investigations at 4-10 Atkins Square and 102-104 Hindrey Road took place earlier this summer.  Residents have now have received a letter from Peabody telling them that their homes are arenot safe. It is clear that Peabody had this information for several months, since the inspections its contractors undertook. However, they have only just introduced a waking watch, and they have said nothing about introducing a new fire alarm system, or resolving the fire safety issues.

Based on the figures provided by Peabody for 13 Atkins Square, if Peabody try to pass on the costs of the waking watch to residents, it could cost in the region of £8,000 per year for each flat. As such, we need a cheaper long term solution to be found immediately.

Peabody have ignored the letter that the Residents’ Association sent to them earlier in the autumn setting out your concerns about fire safety. We have reminded Peabody to reply to your letter, but they keep ignoring us.

Organising Meetings for Fire Safety

The Residents’ Association will organise meetings for residents: we will help to organise for fire safety, and to fight against residents having to pay Peabody to put right the negligence involved in the construction Pembury Circus by Peabody’s contractor Bellway. There is a meeting for Block C (5-10 Atkins Square) on Monday 2 November 2020 at 8:00 pm. Contact the Residents’ Association for joining details.

Residents of other parts of Pembury Circus should contact the Residents’ Association for help in arranging their own organising meetings.

Letter from Peabody

The letter from Peabody notifying some residents of the risks is below. Peabody failed to send this letter to a large number of the residents affected, so the Residents’ Association has tried to pass it on to those who did not receive it.
