Pembury Estate Community Gardens

The Dalston Lane Community Garden Project

We believe everyone on the estate should have access to nice outdoors areas. That’s why the Residents’ Association is working with the charity ecoACTIVE on a proposal for a community garden on Dalston Lane. It will be for residents to shape as they want.

Respond to our consultation survey.

What could the garden look like?

A wildflower meadow will run along Dalston Lane, providing flowers for bees. A mown grass path will stretch the length of it, allowing access to plots for residents to grow their own vegetables, fruits, and flowers.

Dogs and children will be welcomed to play between the wildflowers and along stepping logs playfully arranged by the path.

A natural hedge along Dalston Lane will shield the garden from the road. This will also reduce traffic noise to the flats on the ground floor.

How can I have my say and get involved?

We need to know whether you want this garden. If we cannot show strong resident support then Peabody will try to block us.

Whatever your feelings, let us know by respond to our short survey.

If residents do want the garden then there will be lots of opportunities to take part. No one is required to help and volunteers can put in as much or as little time as we want to.

What will the garden cost?

Nothing. We are securing grant funding for materials so residents won’t pay a penny. Residents will come together to build the garden ourselves.

What Residents Have Already Achieved

A Peaceful Space in the Heart of Hackney

The well-developed community gardens in Hindrey Road have been built by residents of the Pembury Estate. Residents have made a peaceful outdoor space, alive year-round with flowers, vegetables, and birds.

A Community Coming Together

It is only as a community that we have been able to develop our community gardens. We have built individual plots for some residents, and communal plots of strawberries, herbs, and other vegetables that anyone is welcome to tend to and use.

Vegetables Grown on Pembury’s Community Gardens

This shows what residents of the Pembury Estate are able to grow on their existing community gardens year-round. With a bit more space and love, what more could we grow?

A Flowering Community

At the same time as bringing people together and providing food for residents, our community gardens are filled with beautiful flowers. This is something that all of Pembury should be able to enjoy.
